Look, I love David Tennant as much as the next girl – which is a LOT, trust me – but for crying out loud, people, it’s time we draw the line.
Have you been watching Broadchurch? It’s a popular ITV show starring the Scottish actor that just recently concluded its first season here on BBC America. It’s popular in the UK and also in the US, so of course the American networks came calling, and Fox has announced their version will premiere in 2014. It’s a time-honoured tradition of ripping off others’ ideas, tweaking the formula a bit, and presenting them on a slightly different stage.
The key bit up there is that you NEED TO TWEAK THE FORMULA. Because step one in Fox’s rumoured plan to Americanise this UK TV show is to cast Tennant in the exact same role.
It’s taken me a good half-hour since learning this news to even come close to putting into words what a monumentally silly concept this is. Who is the target audience for this show? People who have somehow come to love Tennant but could do without the accent? WHO??
